Left and Right Brain
I
want to take you away from the 8 types of IQ to another concept
which you probably heard of.
Our brain is divided into 2 halfs, the left brain and the right
brain.
The left brain deals mainly with:
Logic and Analytical
Detail oriented
Facts
words and language
Rational
Reality based
While the right brain deals with:
Feelings
"Big picture" oriented
Imagination
symbols and images
Holistic
Fantasy based
Most children are highly creative (right brain) before entering
school. But because our educational systems place a higher value on
left brain skills such as mathematics, logic and language than it
does on drawing or using our imagination, all of the children will
be "forced" to use more of their left brain.
Someone who is more "right brained" will therefore find it harder to
do well in school.
To add to the problem, schools teach using mostly left brain
methods. It is therefore essential that your children study using
both their right and left brain to overcome this problem.
This will also help to make up for any deficiencies that they might
have with their verbal, logical, interpersonal and intrapersonal IQ.
